Learn More»Hardwood flooring brings a warm, traditional look to Central Brevard living and dining rooms. In a climate this humid, though, the choice between solid hardwood and engineered hardwood matters more than it would somewhere drier, and Floor Coverings International® generally recommends engineered wood for barrier-island homes in Cocoa Beach, Cape Canaveral and Indialantic.
Our Mobile Flooring Showroom® brings wood samples directly to your home, so you can see how each species, stain and plank width looks next to your own walls, cabinets and furniture.

A home that runs its AC steadily holds a more stable humidity level than one that’s only conditioned part of the year, which is why solid hardwood takes more planning on the barrier island.
Seasonal homes and rentals. If your home sits empty for part of the year, ask how your air-conditioning plan affects your options. Wood responds to the humidity around it whether anyone is home or not.
What’s under your floors. Solid hardwood must be nailed to a wood subfloor and can’t go directly over concrete, while engineered wood can be glued or floated over a concrete slab. Your Design Associate talks through your home’s construction and air-conditioning habits before recommending solid or engineered wood.
It depends on your home. Engineered wood is a realistic option for many Central Brevard homes, including over a concrete slab. Solid hardwood needs a wood subfloor and steady indoor humidity within the manufacturer’s range.
Yes. Engineered hardwood is less affected by moisture than solid hardwood, making it the sensible recommendation across much of Central Brevard.
Wood flooring needs time in your home to adjust to its humidity before it goes down, which helps keep it from gapping or warping later. That’s typically at least 48 hours for engineered wood and often two weeks or more for solid hardwood, following the manufacturer’s instructions. Your Design Associate builds that time into your schedule from the start, rather than rushing the process.
Whether you’re considering solid hardwood or engineered wood, request a Free In-Home Consultation and your Design Associate will talk through your home’s conditions before recommending an approach.
