Floor Coverings International of Chapel Hill failed to repair and refinish our hardwood floors as we agreed, as specified in the proposal we accepted. The estimate and proposal that we agreed to were provided by an excellent, knowledgeable, and experienced consultant to the company, who had previously owned a similar business in the Raleigh area. However, the owner of Floor Coverings International of Chapel Hill failed to convey the detailed instructions for the proposed work to the crew and instead used inferior, less resilient products to refinish the sanded floor. Moreover, the requested staining of the refinished hardwood floors to match, as closely as possible, the stairs in the front entrance area was entirely ignored. In addition to failing to communicate how the floors SHOULD have been refinished, the owner of Floor Coverings of Chapel Hill showed no oversight of the work being done by the crew, who simply followed his incorrect guidance, and he never inspected the finished work. To be fair, after we made him aware that the work wasn’t being done according to our agreement (we have multiple security cameras accessible remotely), the owner acknowledged his error and agreed to adjust the final cost. We also appreciate that he scheduled the work while we were on vacation. However, the discrepancy between the finish that we wanted (among other aspects of how the work should have been completed, as defined in the proposal) and what was done is a major disappointment. That said, although not what we wanted, the quality of the refinished floors is excellent. We chose Floor Coverings International of Chapel Hill based on consistently positive Google reviews, and it is likely that communication failures, along with a lack of proper project oversight, were to blame.

Although we ultimately did not proceed with our carpet job, I can’t speak highly enough about Jason, his professionalism, and his knowledge. When we get around to doing this project in the future, he will be the first person I call.

I signed up for a consultation on line and Mike contacted me the next day. When I met with Mike he was very knowledgeable and showed me wood samples to choose from. He did not overwhelm me with lots of choices which I appreciated. The workers who installed the wood flooring were very courteous and nice. They did an excellent job and cleaned up everything before they left.
