The City of Hapeville invites you to celebrate freedom, culture, and community at the Juneteenth Freedom Day Celebration on Friday, June 19, 2026, at Jess Lucas Park. Enjoy live performances from 2x Grammy-winning group Arrested Development, family-friendly activities, delicious local food trucks, and engaging workshops at the Hapeville Depot Museum.
Juneteenth celebrates the end of slavery in the United States, but freedom did not mean equality overnight. After emancipation, former slaves, now Americans, still faced systemic barriers designed to suppress their rights and political power, including literacy tests, poll taxes, racial violence, and discriminatory laws known as Jim Crow laws. Gerrymandering also became a powerful tool used to divide our communities and weaken voting influence, limiting fair representation in government. Juneteenth and the holiday weekend’s celebrations serve as a reminder of the long fight for civil rights, voting equality, and justice.
